The land sale is on the horizon! As a primer, here is a bit of new and updated information about land in Ember Sword and how you can go about acquiring it.
The first land sale will take place in Thanabus’ cradle of learning – Solarwood, with roughly 12,000 of the 40,000 total plots being made available in this nation. Known primarily for its pursuits of knowledge, the nation is also incredibly rich in farmable land surrounded by a lush forest. Amongst the trees lie ancient structures, a reminder of the Catastrophe that once befell the planet. Nevertheless, they remain ripe for exploration, provided the explorer is daring enough. Solarwoodlings and visitors alike will be able to explore this land to its fullest, working together to conquer its challenges or battling for glory in its dense woods.
For those of you who have been following us for a while, we have made some slight changes to our land system to ensure the sale goes as smoothly as possible.
We’re no longer selling estates and regions. Instead we’re introducing more transparency to the land system, with four new types of land plots:
- Regular plots
- Settlement plots
- Town plots (a town consists of 4 linked town plots)
- City plots (a city consists of 16 linked city plots)
Note: The in-game size of a plot is approximately one in-game screen.
All types of plots collect a share of the revenue generated in the area around them.
A New Way to Buy Land
When purchasing land, you’ll be shown a representation of the world map. Here, you can select what we call “parcels” of land, which are pre-defined grids of land plots. They vary in size from 1×1 all the way up to roughly 20×20.
As cities are made up of 16 linked city plots, these will always be located within the same parcel. The same goes for towns, which are made up of 4 linked town plots.
Once the sale is live, you can select the exact parcels you want. When doing so you’ll be presented with a list of the plots located within the parcel you’ve selected.

Regular plots are the basest form of land in Ember Sword. They are your chance to own a piece of the ever evolving world of the game. Regular plots can have some interesting characteristics that are revealed as the game unfolds, which include things such as campsites, NPC houses, rich mineral deposits, monster spawns, and more.
Regular plots collect a share of the revenue generated by the area around them. Additionally, you also receive the title of Sir/Lady.
Settlements are bastions of civilization in the wild frontier, offering respite and rest to the many travelers passing through. You can find supplies here if you’re passing through, or, if you prefer offering those to the masses, you can create a store if you own the land. Your own piece of Thanabus, carved out of the wilds and cared for by your hard work.
Settlements can work great as a resupply station for adventurers passing through or as a small base of operations for a guild, among other things. The buildings you can place on settlements include, but are not limited to:
- Small player housing
- Small guild house
- Small player store
Settlement plots collect a share of the revenue generated in the area around them. On acquisition, you receive the title of Baron/Baroness.
Towns are larger than settlements and can offer more to the wayward adventurer. They are the home to buildings aimed towards more specific tasks, such as crafting, specific gear acquisition and resource refinement. Here, you can unload the loot you’ve been hauling across the land, and you can shape those metals you’ve been collecting into a mighty weapon or durable set of armor. What’s more, owning a town can make you a venerated figure in the community for providing these services. After all, there is no better feeling than cresting a hill and seeing the telltale signs of civilization and the promise of a warm bed and full purse.
Alongside all settlement buildings, some of the buildings you can construct in towns are:
- Refinement stations
- Crafting buildings
- Medium guild houses
- Exchange — Allows access to the Grand Exchange, where you can buy and sell NFTs and items.
Towns collect a share of the revenue generated in the area around them and will grant you the title of Earl/Countess.
Cities are bustling centers of commercial activity. Their sprawling boulevards, filled with the ever-busy masses exist alongside seedy side streets, where shady individuals conduct business. Regardless of which side of the law you fall on, cities are brimming with riches for those willing to put in the work. The largest structures and guilds are found in these urban locations, bringing along boundless opportunities.
Alongside all buildings from settlements and towns, cities allow you to construct things such as:
- Large guild houses
- Caravan trading posts – Gives the ability to load up caravans with valuable resources and send them out into the wild, as well as receive shipments from across Thanabus.
